Overview
While the maintenance of digital surrogates and most born-digital information lies outside of the purview of the Preservation Department, the Werner J. and Gisella Levi Cahnman lab is working with the other labs in Collections Management to develop guidelines for preserving digital art. This section of the wiki will provide updates on our evolving suggestions for best practices as well as links to relevant information.
Legacy Media Processing
The lab has outfitted a digital transfer work station with 3.5 and 5.25 floppy disk drives, a USB write blocker, and software for the forensically-sound capture of content from legacy media in Partner collections.
Email Processing
The processing lab uses ePADD, a tool developed by archivists which enables archivists to make email discoverable to researchers. ePADD is an acronym for “email: Process, Appraise, Discover, Deliver.”
